I know it’s been ages, but once again I have been out there doing my thing. I was living up North in Cheshire for the winter, where I had a wonderful experience and met some great people. You know who you are and I am eternally grateful for you all making me part of the family, you showed me love and made me feel so welcome, thank you!

I didn’t do much music in the northern lands, played one gig at a Farmers market, which I absolutely loved, even though it did pour down the entire time. I do believe I managed to raise the spirits though and the feedback and cash people threw at me reflected the appreciation.

Even though I have not been performing live I have managed to write a couple of strong songs, which I am currently deciding on whether to hang onto them, and save them for a new album, or to release them as singles? Not sure, but we shall see. I am probably going to change the angle, maybe more acoustic, but not sure, again I will put it out there and see what transpires.

I have now moved back down to the south coast and I am starting to lay down some roots to enable me to get creative once again and get stuff down and recorded. I am also researching information towards a book I intend to write, which will also mean I will travel to gain the essential information first hand. To accompany this I am slowly getting into photography and want to learn more about film making, for I would like to make some short films to accompany the project.

Along side of all of this I am learning to be a spinal therapist, which I will be qualified by August this year and ready to be let loose on the world . This was something I trained in for 3 years when I was studying to be a chiropractor, but I did not like the way that profession was going as it was becoming more aligned with the western medical model, which I personally feel is outdated and too money orientated. I believe Hippocrates would certainly not approve of the health services these days in my opinion. Things need a huge revamp and we as a species need to understand once again the power of the mind, body and spirit to heal, this is key!

Anyway on with the music. I have just finished this video of a song I wrote and filmed when I was traveling around Europe in my camper van. This is a catchy little number called “It Hurt’s,” and I believe its one of those songs we can all relate to at some point in our lives. Whether its a lover, a family member, or a friend, at times they may as well be your enemies and be done with it. At times people just do not see you, hear you, feel you, love you, and it hurts! But I forgive them, for we all get hurt from time to time, and from it we grow, that’s life!

I know its been a long time once again since my last entry, which was back in July, but like I said before I have been out there doing it, living life without any money and situations just haven’t really allowed me the headspace and quality of time to capture any of my thoughts and creativity, until now!

Since the last entry I have continue to travel all over the country, taking in the sights and meeting new people. I have heard many tales and I am generally starting to get a true reflection of where things are at and where it is all seams to be going.

I just finished mixing this track below called “Haven’t You Heard.”

Written in September 2009, with Timmy Moore. Timmy had this tune which I recorded at his house, just the guitar parts to a beat, and then went away, rearranged it and wrote some lyrics to it. Laid down the vocal, added some keyboard parts and bingo, a song!

I suppose it reflects us at our best in some respects, where two differing styles came together, enabling each to lead the other to create something that we probably could not have done without the other. A good writing partnership and I have a couple more yet to finish.

The song is about what I feel life is all about, Love and giving it freely! I based it around the revelations, and the desire to be able to live for giving love to another come these predicted times!

The times we are living is the high that is about to fall, well since I wrote the words to this tune, they have certainly come, and the storm we are now certainly riding through. I mentioned remaining calm and all will be fine.

When the riders come (the four riders of apocalypse) before us, silhouetted by the sun, (meaning that the time will be obvious and powerful.) The sword of love we’ll find, and the strength to draw from stone, (meaning we will be strong enough to use love as our weapon to transcend matter and the issues of the third and lower dimensions, to have the strength to draw the sword of choice and to make decisions based on higher guidance.) With the eyes to see the truth, beyond the veils of fear, (meaning we will use our third eye to see beyond the illusions cast upon us,) your never have to feel alone now, for I will always be here, (linking us as one, all united once again as a conscious planet!)

Your the guiding light that shines, the one and only, your the only thing on my mind, the one to show me. What this life is for, the reasons why I’m living, is for giving you love! (All of this is simply about transcending the prisons of the ego, to move into the heart and to feel the light and allow it to guide our actions. Its all about love and always will be).

So there you have it, one of the last songs I recorded with Timmy at the start of 2009, just prior to taking this break I personally needed. I hope this song gives you some joy and above all hope. I will be putting out some other songs we recorded during that period so stay tuned.

So what else have I been up to?

Well, I have taken up archery, which I love, got into bushcraft and learning about wild food and have met the most wonderful natural girl I could ever wish for, who has shown me a world of magic and mystery and all the secrets of natural food!

I now see the world through new eyes, for once the ego has been identified and put in its place, you gain a whole new perspective on things and it just all starts to make sense! Having stepped away from the mainstream society, I made the decision to let my company go and declared bankruptcy. I just could not continue for there was no new work coming in and the banks were not playing ball with giving me a break. As I was living in a van and my overall general quality of life was substandard, it just didn’t seam possible to continue with the band and trying to get the music to become a success. I lost my will I suppose and something had to give.

I discovered some amazing things over this last year, and have gathered loads of new insights and knowledge that could fill a book or two. I intend to start revealing these to you all, and will be aiming to write some articles over the next few months with snippets of what I have discovered. So watch this space.

Currently I am writing and recording a new set of songs for a new album. At present I am focusing on a stripped back acoustic album, but I may change my mind if the songs demand the band to be involved. Hello folks, its me, I’m alive!

Well its been ages since I have attended to the site and I am sorry for those of you that visit regularly, its just sometimes you have to live it first and that’s exactly what I have been doing!

When I wrote mental cages, I thought I had broke down all the walls of limitation that I had in my mind, but as it turned out that was just the beginning.

What a year!

2009 for me personally was one hell of a year of transformation. I reached the end of the line with my version of how life was going to be, I just felt completely trapped by my direction. The music had became my main focus and as a result I lost my reasons, my motivation. I seamed to be finding myself in a number of repeating patterns, situations that just seamed to suck the life force out of me every time. I knew that we made good music, and live to me was magical. I mean what a brilliant bunch of musicians I found myself working and hanging out with (steady Timmy!) We all connected on a level which enabled us to express ourselves creatively and pretty much without rehearsals. But it just wasn’t the right time (although time is purely illusional and all things are perfect the way they are, its just us that get stuck on timing), for it all seamed like I was pushing water up hill.

Rock music was starting to get popular again with the likes of Kings of Leon, Muse, and the Foo fighters, but it seamed the message of the spoons just wasn’t being heard. People just were not coming to gigs, but I found that to be the case with many other bands, so I didn’t take it personally, just it didn’t help playing to almost empty venues. People didn’t seam to be buying the CD as I had hoped, although it has sold and those who bought it make a point of telling my how much they like it and still play it (Thank you all, you know who you are) it’s just the return you get back from online sales is not great and considering how much money I spent on creating a quality product, it just doesn’t pay off. I may as well of done it on the cheap. Really its just the times we are living in, people are not buying music like they used to, it is just too easy to get it for free now, almost expected! I would still probably do the same, because quality is important to me, I enjoy creating something that has legs and will run a long time and I know its appreciated by you, so if one person is happy, it’s worthwhile. There I feel better now!

The whole internet thing started to become a grind for me, as well as managing, producing, writing, marketing, driving, performing, plus making the tea! I just ran myself dry and needed to take a break. This was also partly due to an experience I had trying to put together an independent music festival. Now that is something that took immense amounts of energy, but to get so close and get nothing except invoices and grief, that ultimately led to me becoming bankrupt! What a year. By the end of it, I was living in a van, with deep snow outside, wondering to myself whilst giggling whether I have ever been that cold before? and thinking, “where did I go wrong?” Character building stuff indeed, the Marines prepared me well.

The Cocoon

So I took the biggest chunk of time out I ever have taken in my whole life and it was the best thing I could have ever done. I basically cocooned myself away in a van, surrounded myself with nature and hit the books and research. I started to rebuild my life from nothing but bits and pieces and started to see the outside world with new eyes. The corruption, greed, selfishness, poor leadership, and weak idol worship, really its become a joke! I am finding it hard to respect the leadership of the world today, this new world order designed by the corporations, causing everyone to become so addicted to money and things, like sharks in a frenzy, squabbling to attain wealth and possessions regardless of the cost, crazy!

Mental cages is about the self constructed, socially excepted values and beliefs we shade the world around us with. Its all just subjective limitation to create an excepted reality that functions to get the results we want, or more importantly think we want. The point here is, we create our subjective reality, and it is us that put limitations upon it. Many are passed on by society and reinforced by the system daily, passed on through education, family structure, friends and worst of all the TV! (Turn it off, save yourselves.) Ultimately we have to except it, and unfortunately much of what is on offer is dogmatic, at best half truths mixed with fantasy. The real power lies behind the veil illusion.

I thought I had done enough processing, and I am actually a trained coach in corporate and personal development (obviously they missed the point in the corporate world,) so I thought I had it in the bag so to speak! But really that was just the beginning and as it turned out I had a whole load of stuff to offload. Now I have done it, I feel so free its unreal. I will not go into detail now about all the things I’ve been through and doing, as some of it is well out there, but the result is that I am feeling the best I have ever felt and I have pretty much let all material things go. I am completely starting again from scratch and living the next chapter of my life that will no doubt lead to the next album once the muse within me steps into the driving seat once again. I personally have to live the journey, experience life in all its riches, at all levels, without fear, limitations and all full of joy. From this state for me the songs come, the album then will come together and the musicians will once again come together to deliver the next chapter. as I say at the beginning of the song, “Relax, breath deeply, and free your mind,” well thats exactly what I have done, and I recommend it to anyone that has reached the end of the line (Believe me that is a lot of people right now.)

Why do I tell you all this? Well I want to keep writing and I will keep writing and producing songs. I am documenting my experience, my journey that has really only started to gain momentum. Longspoon still is alive and kicking, but right now is stirring the pot of life to conjure the next piece of art. My life is art, and I express it in everything I do. Music is but one expression and I have it in my heart, but there are also so many other aspects to me, as I am sure is the same for you, for we are more than what we chose to show to the world. I may even attempt to write a book, which was something I started only to find someone had written the exact book I was forming in my mind and had been doing so for many years. I suppose he has done me a favor, because I can read his and write about something else now!

I will try and write more from now on, and soon will be putting up some new song material online that I worked on with Timmy Moore last year, that I would like you all to hear. I also will start to write traveling songs, about my journeys, that so far have taken me all over the place, meeting lots of amazing new people, seeing some great sights, seeking out work, a home, community and soul. I will probably book a few gigs to deliver these live and will let you all know when the time comes.

Have hope

In the mean time, have hope, it exists, I found it in the Peak District honest. Life does get better, just sometimes you have to let it all go, to get what you need.

Out there

I have been out there meeting you all, at every level of society, on the road, listening, learning, talking, mainly talking, sorry about that! You may be one of the ones I have met, perhaps you are one of the ones that said to me, “get off my land!’ Sorry if my presence ruined the view, I meant no offense, its just we are running out of land you know! (Time to study Gandhi’s policies one feels!) I have been feeling the pulse of the times, moving within the the heartbeat of England and hopefully soon further a field. There is an amazing world out there, billions of people waiting to become your friend, to help you, to give and to be helped themselves. To help someone is the biggest gift we can ever receive, for it lights up the heart and transforms us from the selfish ego state, to one of compassion and togetherness. Pay it forwards and all will fall into place.

The capitalist system that is driving the planet is completely out of control now, 3% profit and 6.6 billion people all based on the earths resources will one day be viewed as complete madness by our future generations. They will see us as a war mongering, slaved nation, that was dumbed down and under nourished, with a weird practice of separating ourselves from each other and the very Earth itself! Fear is the curse of our times, its transmitted everywhere in the virtual world and used to move nations. Why is fear mainly the source of all broadcasts? If its not fear its sex, or we are made to feel insignificant by constantly being bombarded by advertisement for products you just do not need from TV characters that have become our heroes (sure thats in a song, answers on a postcard please.) Beauty is decided for us by the media, it creates an industry and we love it. We lap it up and freely find ourselves worshiping the money, like a God itself, towards a new world order that is beginning to reveal its true agenda!

I ask you though, who are you? Not what job you do, what clothes you where, team you support, car you drive, nationality, or characters you idolize and model? No, I care not for such things! Who are you really? I wonder what you would say? See you on the road….

Today, right now, there is a huge issue with the worlds water! There simply is not enough fresh water to supply the rapidly growing population. The reasons are complex, but the main thing to understand is that this problem is not going away anytime soon and it looks like its only going to get worse unless we the people make a stand and do something about it.

That is the reason I wrote this song “One Difference,” so I can contribute in a small way towards raising awareness about this situation. I wanted the song to be stripped back and decided to keep it acoustic, which lead to me asking Justin and Marc from the band “Threo” to accompany me on this recording. It actually turned out that I recorded them over at Marc’s house, which happened to be an old water mill, a nice unplanned touch!

Little Lloyd Goes After Robin Hood

On Wednesday, British activists launched a major campaign to push Gordon Brown’s government into adopting a “Robin Hood Tax” on financial transactions. “By taking an average of 0.05% from speculative banking transactions, hundreds of billions of pounds would be raised every year,” their website claims.

The campaigners unveiled an amazing ad featuring British actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Valkyrie, Pirates of the Caribbean) as a deliciously smarmy banker. Nighy also took to the airwaves on the BBC’s biggest morning shows arguing that a tiny transaction tax would be “small change for the bankers, but big change for the world.”

The Robin Hood Tax campaign website is loaded with lots of clever downloads and posters and attracted visitors by asking them to vote for or against the transaction tax. On the first day of the campaign launch, the tech-heads running the site noticed that they were being spammed with 4,600 “no” votes in a short period of time. They posted a message on the site saying “naughty naughty” letting the spammer know that he was being “watched from the trees.” Within 24 hours they say they traced the spamming to two computers, one allegedly registered to Goldman Sachs.

It’s Not Just A Fairy Tale

Goldman has reason to be worried. On Thursday, the Financial Times front page proclaimed that a global deal on a financial transaction tax was in the offing and could be agreed by the G-20 countries at their next meeting in June.

Goldman has a lot to lose if such a tax becomes a reality. Goldman’s computers may buy or sell shares as many as 1,000 times a second. It is these high-volume, high-speed trades that would take the biggest hit. Average investors, who hold stock for the long term, would hardly notice. A tax of 0.20 percent, as has been proposed in the U.S. Congress, could raise $100 billion per year. That is real money, money that could be used to put Americans back to work, rebuild our ravaged economy and meet other critical needs.

By today, the Robin Hood Tax “yes” vote had a substantial lead on the “no” camp, with 28,017 votes compared with 3,300. Let’s hope the vote keeps on mounting and the campaign spreads around the globe. There is nothing that would put the brakes on the reckless casino-style gambling on Wall Street more than this tiny tax on the likes of Little Lloyd Blankfein.

As those of you that follow my blog will know, I have been going through a bit of a life change. Well pretty much everyone I know is in the same place, I guess that’s whats the present conditions do to you if you let them. Thats the problem, I let the outside influences get to me and right now its a crazy world out there! There seams to be no time to think as we seam to be bombarded daily with stuff and bad news!
I wrote this song a while back, its called “Pierce The Veil” and it all about breaking through the illusion. I could go into depth about it all, but I like to leave some mystery regarding the reasons why I write certain songs!

I also feel this is an appropriate time to add the words of the Hopi elders to this post. With the prophesies revealing themselves one by one, the ancient texts are playing out their predictions. As I wrote in my song “Time To Shine” now is the time, we have to break this trance and start to act NOW!

The Hopi Elders speak…

The name Hopi is a shortened form of Hopituh Shi-nu-mu, “The Peaceful People” or “Peaceful Little Ones” … Here is a message from the Hopi Elders about 2012 …

You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour.

Here are the things that must be considered:

What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know our garden.

So there you all have it. Long time no communication!

I have a new song for you all. It’s called Revolution!

Well I just needed time out of the illusion to be entirely honest and needed to find out what my part is within it all!

I am not sure where all this will lead, for I am not interested in fame, money, limelight, self grandeur and false elevations of the ego. I know that now! I am only interested in creativity and connection to others through truth and love! This whole industry is full of ego, falsehood, fakers, users and abusers! Of course there are some positives, such as other wonderful artists and musicians that I have been blessed to work with and collaborate with, but unfortunately they don’t pay the bills. Money is the pollutant that seams to distort the reasons for being involved in the first place. I am personally at the end of that journey, for I have little money, few possessions, and can clearly see through this third dimensional framework, that in my opinion is falling apart as I write. The only thing left at the end of the day is soul, the essence of our existence, the underlying force that speaks out to from the depths of our being. Through soul we come into the realisation that we are all connected, all are one upon this spinning mass of matter called Planet Earth!

I have needs in this life, such as finding my place, a home, a successful relationship, travel, learning from others throughout the world, immersing myself in nature, culture and the true beauty of this world. Money can fulfill this to a point, as it is what the current system is built upon. But if you look at the foundations of the monetary system you will see it is fundamentally flawed and is a system whereby we hand over our inner power and connection to a minority! What is this controlling force? Its not politicians, for they are subject to the force as much as we the people are! I could say more, but that is not my way, for it only give more attention to the problem. I know we will all start to collectively look after each other, and will start to demand more from life, beyond that what we have been educated (or de-educated) to believe in! I see more and more people falling victim to the conditions that surround us today, and unfortunately many are suffering alone.

If I can do one thing with my music, it would be to bring people together, in a celebration of our journey together towards divine unity. We are approaching a major shift as we approach 2012 December the 21st! This date has been coded in many of the ancient scriptures, from the Mayans, to the Hopi’s, the Hindu’s, and many other cultures! They all talk about the end of times, a shift into something new! With all great shifts comes great opportunity, but also there is pain, as the old ways try to hold onto the manifested empires that they have created. I could write for pages and pages on this, but that is not what this entry is about! I just want to offer this song to you all for your pleasure and hopefully it says what I am trying to say in a simpler form.

How are you doing there?

Just wanted to update you all on whats been happening in the world of the “Spoons” lately! 

Firstly let me tell you about a rare gig we are doing tonight 6th November 09 at the Robin Hood Pub in Royal Tunbridge Wells. The pub is situation on Sandhurst Road and we will be playing from 9pm onwards. As this was short notice, we couldn’t get the full band, so we are doing it as a duo, Timmy Moore and myself! Up close and personal! Dave and Jo Gardener are working hard behind the scenes to get this venue to be a regular live music location on weekends. It needs your support to make a success of it. It’s has been a busy year for the band, as we have tried to get ourselves out there involved in the music scene all over the UK! The highlights have been headlining Wharfstock for Rednose day, supporting Mark Chadwick of the Levellers, plus lots of other great gigs. (see gig list)

I would be telling porkies if I said it was easy, it has been really tough to be honest and I now understand why bands can end up folding. The music scene is in a real state, as it is trying to find its identity in this rapidly changing world. The old formulas of being signed by the record companies and living the dream is now becoming part of history, for even artists and bands you think are doing really well are still struggling to make ends meet. Record sells have dropped due to illegal downloading, and the days of the album seam almost a thing of the past, only honored by hardcore fans! It can still be done, but it is really hard to get the correct approach! 

The most difficult pill to swallow is live performances and trying to encourage a regular fan base to attend gigs. I am not sure if its down to the credit crunch, or just a change in peoples lifestyles, where it is now easier to stay in and entertain yourselves with home cinemas and x-factor TV type shows. But the reality is the live music scene is suffering as well as the pub trades. Less people going out, means the landlords cannot justify paying the bands the money that the bands need to dedicate full time as professional musicians. So the musicians are having to go part time and get sucked into mundane jobs to supplement their income. but this means less time for writing, rehearsing, studio time and eventually burnout! 

It confuses me, for a truly believe Longspoon are predominately a live band and those that have witness one of our shows will agree we are a top band, that always gets the crowd going! We always get asked back at any new venue, and always give each performance 100%! I must confess I am not the best promotor or manager regarding the band and perhaps that is the solution, get a Manager to do the stuff that clearly I personally do not enjoy, which is promoting and selling the band. 

I have learnt some harsh, but valuable lessons this year in my attempts to put on shows and festivals. i was a main part of the creation of Fahrenheit festival which was a festival for Independent and Unsigned artists from all over the UK and beyond! Unfortunately the event was cancelled a week prior to delivery, due to circumstances beyond my control. It was a nightmare to be honest and I have only just got over it. This wasn’t the only thing I tried. I also had a go on putting together a show called the Rock Art Collective, a concept of mixing 4 great rock bands with art and dancing. A show with light, fire, the lot! It would of been amazing, but no one got it, and the tickets just didn’t sell! Not sure why again, and this left me de-flated! It makes me very hesitant to do anything like this again, but I am not a quitter and I live my life as a Realistic Optimist! So we shall see!

We have recently been through so much change to the point where it has almost become a joke! With Eddie Collins leaving to move to Spain, Gez butcher leaving to pursue his solo career, Longspoon has brought in some new elements. musicians such as Wez Johnson (New Drummer), Justin Hankey who has been with us part time from almost the beginning playing bass and more recently Drums, Grant Tunbridge (Bass), David Driver (Drums), Reggae Rick (Drums), Paul Jobson (Bass)! All amazing players and for that I am very grateful indeed. But we yet to settle and that is what I intend to allow to happen now. My objective is to bring in a keyboard player, and settle on the drummer and bass player. I will be learning more electric guitar parts, and concentrating more on vocal performance as the front man! 

The next step is to take a small break to redesign the set, write some new tracks, and plan to record an EP for release in the Spring next year! This will be to get out there the new direction Longspoon are heading in, and believe me its going to have loads of energy! The album “Symphony Of Man” is selling at a steady rate and in China I was told it was number 9 in the Shenzhen Music charts (pretty good really). The USA seams to be the biggest downloader of the album and we seam to sell a steady flow of albums at gigs. I still have about 400 copies left from 1000 so still lots to do. The basic equation is to make enough money from the album to re-invest into creating the next one. I also want to get a video shot to accompany the new EP, even to go with one of the old ones, but I must first get some money to do this, unless I can create a profit share thing with a production company! 

The website www.longspoon.net is not being accessed enough and I encourage you all if you would be so kind to drop by from time to time and leave a comment on the guest book or on one of the blogs. I intend to start creating more interesting blogs, and links to other bands that we are collaborating with, to create a hub of creativity! Reaching out into the realms of art and philosophy to build a scene, of artistic connections. I am currently making some connections in the global shift organisations that are linked to the likes of Al Gore, the dali Lama and nelson Mandala. This is a personal thing for me, for as you can probably tell from my lyrics I care about the planet and the development of social consciousness. The time is now, The TIme To Shine! 

So what can you do for us? Well please spread the word about the band, come and see us play more, and generally think of us and wish us well! If you all pass on the bands details to friends, local venues if you happen to be at one, and help us raise our profile, the old school way, PEOPLE POWER! If you have the album “Symphony Of Man” please leave a comment on the website about it. If your a itunes user, I still need a music writer to leave a comment to get the ball rolling. Things like that help bring a personal touch to our work and encourage unknown elements to get involved. Please pass on the widgets I send out to spread the music and Longspoon awareness!

I really want to keep on working the band, but I have to be realistic, because my own personal life is a mess at the moment as I have no fixed abode really, and due to a number of unsuccessful ventures this year have lost a lot of money! The thing I still have is the music and don’t worry I know how to live off the land, so if it goes completely pear shaped your find me living of nuts and berries and wild fowl! (unless I go veggie) Probably less kept, but still alive and surviving! I may get pulled away to earn some money somewhere, but my heart is with the music and the next few months are key!

Long Live the Spoons! 

It was August bank holiday, the sun was shining! Longspoon raised the vibe, playing to a huge crowd of music lovers in the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells. This is the 3rd successful year of this event that is the creation of local musician and promoter Paul Dunton. Paul has triumphed under adversity to deliver this event, which I can assure you takes a lot of work and effort! Every year it has got better and the attendance is growing. The local papers and TV companies seam slow to support it, let hope they get it sorted for next year!
